associate dentist

Dr. Sophia Ellia, DDS, MBA

Dr. Sophia Ellia got to Crozet the long way around Virginia. Born in Texas but raised in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Stafford, and Fredericksburg, she has lived in nearly every corner of the Commonwealth — and chose Crozet on purpose. Ask her why and she'll point west: she spends her weekends on the trails of Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge, and now the mountains are her backyard.

She provides comprehensive general dentistry for patients of all ages, and her approach starts before any instrument comes out: she listens first. Every treatment plan begins with a plain-language conversation about what she sees, what the options are, and the honest benefits and trade-offs of each — because good dentistry is a decision you make together, not one handed down from behind a mask.

Training

Dr. Ellia graduated summa cum laude from Christopher Newport University's honors program with two Bachelor of Science degrees — one in Cellular, Molecular, and Physiological Biology and one in Biochemistry. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery at the West Virginia University School of Dentistry — receiving the school's Certificate of Honor, awarded for one of the highest GPAs in her graduating class — and completed an MBA at WVU's John Chambers College of Business and Economics along the way.

She was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society, and is a member of the American Dental Association and Delta Sigma Delta International Dental Fraternity — memberships she keeps active alongside a steady continuing-education habit that keeps her current as the field moves.

How she practices

Her word for it is partnership: the dentist explains the basis for each treatment option — benefits and risks in plain language — and the decision gets made together, with you confident in what was chosen and why. Listening comes first because, in her view, care can't be right if the dentist and patient aren't working from the same page.

Away from the office

You'll find her on a Shenandoah trailhead, deep in a book, or mid-project with a crochet hook — she's always trying a new craft, which her patients will recognize as the same curiosity she brings to staying current in modern dentistry.
