invisalign

Invisalign vs. braces, without the sales pitch.

Both straighten teeth reliably; they differ in how treatment feels day to day and in a handful of cases where one is simply the better tool. Here is the comparison the way we'd give it to a friend across the kitchen table.

One thing up front: for some complex corrections, braces remain the right call, and if your scan says so, that is what you'll hear from us — along with a referral done properly.

Daily life: where aligners win

Aligners are nearly invisible, come out for meals — so no food rules — and let you brush and floss normally, which keeps hygiene dramatically simpler over a year-plus of treatment. Discomfort is generally milder: pressure with each new set instead of wire tightenings and bracket rub.

Appointments are lighter too: progress checks every six to ten weeks versus the tighter adjustment cadence braces require. For adults and busy teens, that difference compounds.

Discipline and edge cases: where braces win

Braces never get left on a lunch tray. They work 24 hours a day without willpower, which matters for patients — any age — who know themselves well enough to predict the aligners would spend afternoons in a pocket. The 22-hour habit is real, and we'd rather you choose honestly than restart later.

Clinically, certain severe rotations, large bite corrections, and some vertical tooth movements are still handled more predictably with brackets. The scan sorts your case into 'either works' or 'this one, specifically' — and most cases we see are the former.

Questions we hear in the chair

Which is faster?
For comparable cases, timelines are similar — most run 12 to 24 months either way. Aligner treatment only runs slower when wear time slips, which is the honest variable to weigh about yourself.
Which is cheaper?
They cost about the same for comparable cases. Plan length drives price more than the appliance does — details on the Invisalign cost page.
Do you do braces here?
Invisalign is our aligner platform — formerly recognized as a Platinum Plus Invisalign provider, among Align's highest tiers. When a case genuinely calls for brackets, we say so at the consult and coordinate the right care rather than bending the case to fit our tool.
Can I switch from braces to Invisalign?
Often, yes — some patients start in brackets elsewhere and finish in aligners here, or use aligners to correct relapse from old braces. The scan shows what's left to move and which tool finishes it best.
