Invisalign for teens — and for the parents paying for it.
Two audiences read this page: a teenager who doesn't want to spend sophomore year in brackets, and a parent wondering whether that teenager will actually wear removable aligners. Both concerns are legitimate. Both have real answers.
Teen Invisalign is built for exactly this: wear indicators you can check at a glance, replacement aligners for the ones that end up in a lunchroom trash can, and room for the teeth still coming in.
For the parent: the compliance question
Teen aligners carry small blue indicator dots that fade with wear — a glance tells you whether they've been in 22 hours a day or in a backpack. Progress checks tell the same story, and if wear slips, we talk to your teenager directly, doctor to patient, about what it costs them in months.
Lost aligners happen — the teen system includes free replacements, and a call to the front desk sorts the sequence. Budget-wise, treatment runs about the same as braces, with the written figure delivered before you commit.

For the teen: your actual life
Nothing changes on picture day, in the band room, or at a Western Albemarle game — the aligners are clear, and they come out for the mouthguard or the mouthpiece. No food rules either: pizza, popcorn, whatever, because the aligners are out at meals.
You'll see your projected end result on a screen before starting. Most teens find that part — watching their own teeth move to the finish — makes the 22 hours a day easier to sell to themselves.
Questions we hear in the chair
- Will my teen actually wear them?
- The indicator dots make wear visible at home, and the check-ins make it visible to us. Most teens are more diligent than parents expect once they've seen their projected result — motivation does what nagging can't.
- What about sports and instruments?
- Aligners come out for a mouthguard or a mouthpiece and go back in after. Compared to playing a brass instrument in braces, most band teens call this the easy mode.
- Can Invisalign work if all the adult teeth aren't in?
- Often yes — teen aligners include room for erupting molars. The scan shows exactly where things stand, and if the honest answer is to wait a year, that is the answer you'll get.
- What if aligners get lost?
- The teen system includes free replacements. Call us, keep wearing the previous set, and the replacement arrives without drama or a lecture.
